SAMAWA CINEMA
Samawa and Baghdad, Iraq

Samawa Cinema was founded in 2012 by a group of young film directors in the city of Samawa in southern Iraq. Following the destruction of all the movie theaters during the war, the group focuses its work on the re-activation of independent film screenings. Samawa Cinema has held more than 142 movie screenings and film-related public events since it was founded.

Samawa has also opened a new film club in Baghdad at the premises of Burj Babel for Media Development, an organization active in the fields of media, culture, and arts. The venue is equipped with 180 seats and a digital projector.
