Cinapses Grants - Cycle 3

Cinapses Grants - Cycle 3

The planning of Cinapses 3 (with its current format) took shape in April 2022 in Amman with the members, after the NAAS team presented a previous format in a Network Meeting for Cinapses 3 named “Token System”. From the members’ objection to the format a committee was formed in Feb 2022 by 3 members (Terrso - Egypt, Metropolis - Lebanon and Cimatheque – Alternative Film Center - Egypt) to decide with NAAS team that they should follow the design of Cinapses 2 (as a re-granting project) to take place as Cinapses 3. Since Cinapses 2 never took place amid the Lebanon crisis and the accessibility of this round of re-granting.

About Cinapses

Cinapses was a re-granting program that aimed, on the one hand, to lead members into new opportunities for institutional sustainability and programmatic development and, on the other, to foster collaboration and solidarity among them. The program encouraged joint initiatives and promoted the sharing of experiences, resources, and opportunities while activating network mobility.

As such, Cinapses built an ecosystem of tools and practices to be used by everyone in the network and the sector more broadly, advancing film circulation, community outreach, and audience engagement.

Process

The first day, the members gathered and worked in subgroups to discuss the different areas and modalities of granting, such as : travel, content development, archives & special programming and regular programming. The second day was dedicated to consultations.

An Admin and Legal report was written after Cinapses 3. It is a consolidation of 2 months of research by the Executive Director with the Admin and Finance Manager. It aims to present a timeline, legal consultancies and the executive team decisions prior to the current team regarding Cinapses 3 as a re-granting project taking place within NAAS e.V. structure in Germany. The project started in April 2022 and now is in the phase of final Narrative and Financial report submission for a total of 14 Grants with the amount of 309,355 USD.
